If you've looked in dismay at what's on the
market in the way of travel or 'backpack' guitars
then you'll understand what inspired me to do better.
Most companies, if they make a travel guitar at all, tend to sell cheap mass produced models. Short scales, 'extra light strings only', uncomfortable shapes, plywood and plastic construction...I could go on.
My feeling is- why bother to carry a poor quality travel instrument? Will it inspire you to play on your travels? Will it hold up to the rigours of the trip? Will it actually improve in tone as time goes by, like a good quality guitar does?
My only customer refund ever was a guy who returned a travel guitar stating, 'This guitar is too loud!' I think he had wanted a silent practice guitar. I glady accepted his return, with a sense that I had accomplished what I set out to do- build a travel guitar with good tone & volume, rivalling that of a
full size instrument.
