Hermann Weissenborn popularized the hollowneck slide guitar during the US Hawaiian music craze of the early 1900's.
By the 1930's his brilliant design began to fall to the wayside- the Dobro & resophonic guitar, with their amplifying metal cones, began to be the instrument of choice for slide players looking for more volume.
An instrument design I have enjoyed exploring is the 'what if' notion of what could have transpired if Weissenborn had started making resophonics, or even better, if he had teamed up with the Dopyera brothers of 'Dobro' fame.
This unique guitar explores that notion, combining the hollowneck style slide guitar with a spider style resonator system. The result is an excitingly expressive and versatile guitar, suitable to a wide range of slide playing styles.
~wider and deeper neck than traditional Weissenborn
~slightly deeper body than traditional Weissenborn
~unique floating fretboard, which conceals 2 additional neck soundholes. This innovation enhances the original hollowneck design, maximising its resonant capabilites.
~soundpost construction with shallow cone lip (resonator model only). This style of resonator construction further enhances the open, resonant tonal aspects of the guitar.
~optional fixed or removable internal baffle & porting allows tuning of the sound for more open woody or more resophonic 'cone-ey' tone.
